Stockport County and development partner, Stonebond, are proposing delivering 126 new affordable homes on a site off Grove Lane, Cheadle Hulme, and feedback from the community on the plans is being welcomed as Stockport Council considers the planning application.
The application pertains to a site south of Grove Lane in Cheadle Hulme, originally earmarked for use a training facility and now surplus to requirements following Stockport County’s acquisition of Stockport Sports Village.
Subject to planning approval, the Grove Lane development would deliver 126 high-quality homes of mixed affordable tenure, designed to support young families, key workers, and first-time buyers who are increasingly priced out of the local market. Plans reflect the club’s belief that its growth should deliver transformative opportunities for local people.
The mix of two-, three-, and four-bed homes will be transferred to a recognised affordable housing provider to ensure they remain accessible to local people over the long term, as Stockport faces acute affordable housing pressures. Development plans also commit to delivering improvements to the Grove Lane roundabout to make everyday journeys safer and less congested for residents and commuters.
Stockport County has also committed that all profits from the development will be reinvested back into the borough, supporting the transformation of the Club’s existing infrastructure at Edgeley Park and developing new Academy pathway facilities at Stockport Sports Village along with providing support for an expansion of the Club’s education and community programmes.
Arising out of this investment the Club will be able to expand its support to vulnerable residents, enable young people into new routes into employment and expand grassroots football, including youth and women’s football
With the planning application now live, supporters and local residents are invited to share their views as part of the public consultation process, with any responses required by Wednesday 1st April.
