People looking for a fun day out at Easter should come along to Stockport Council’s historic Bramall Hall.
On Easter Sunday (31st March) The Friends of Bramall Hall are hosting their annual Grand Easter Festival event where this year’s line-up of activities promises a fun packed day for all ages. On the programme is everything from a bouncy castle to a vintage car display.
Other activities to be enjoyed include
competitions, craft activities, face painting,
an owl display, tombola, plant sale as well
as a range of delectable food stalls.
Plus a rare visit from the giant Heritage
Easter Rabbit.
The Friends of Bramall Hall will use the
funds raised by the Easter Festival towards
supporting the on-going development work
at the Hall.
In February this year Stockport Council
submitted a second round application to
the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for £1.6
million under the Heritage Grants
Scheme. The Council and the Friends of
Bramall Hall and Park are making a
substantial contribution in cash and kind.
The proposed physical works include:
- a programme of restoration works to the hall (in particular the repair of the ornate 16th century decorative plaster ceiling in the Withdrawing Room and repair of the hall’s windows)
- repair of the boiler house
- repair and conversion of the stable block to provide visitor facilities including much needed suitable education rooms, a relocated shop and café
- landscaping works, particularly the refurbishment of the derelict walled garden to provide an accessible public events space
- adaptations to make Bramall Hall more accessible to disabled people
Councillor Iain Roberts, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Economic Development & Regeneration, said: “If the bid is successful the Council will be able to greatly improve the Hall and Park. We would also be able to provide an extensive programme of activities to help Stockport residents enjoy and benefit from this exceptional heritage asset. Come along and have some fun at the Grand Easter Festival and help raise funds towards this worthwhile project.”
All these works should help to generate greater visitor numbers for the hall and help to ensure the long term future of the building.
Additional match funding is currently being sought to further support the bid and increase the chances of success.
Letters of support/signatures on a petition will help to demonstrate to the HLF how much Stockport residents support the project. There will be a stand at the Easter festival event for people who would like to support the project.
