Stockport Council is encouraging parents, carers and guardians to attend an information event to learn about the options available for young people when they leave school or college.
The event takes place at Stockport Town Hall on Tuesday 15th October from 4.30-9.00pm for parents of young people in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13. Young people are also welcome to attend.
Options for young people include further education, higher education, apprenticeships, volunteering and employment opportunities.
The event gives people the chance to meet local colleges and 6th forms, training providers, higher education institutions within 90 minutes travelling distance from Stockport, volunteering agencies, the National Apprenticeship Service, staff from the Council’s Services for Young People team, and organisations offering services to young people with learning disabilities and/or difficulties.
They will answer questions about specific courses and what young people can do after leaving school or college.
Presentations on options available to young people and where to go for information, advice and guidance will take place throughout the evening.
Councillor Shan Alexander, Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Achievement, said:
“We hope that parents, carers, guardians will attend the important event to plan for their children’s future. There are many options available to help young people to choose from whether they wish to become an apprentice, go into further education or training or employment.”
