ENJOY GEOCAHING AT BRAMHALL PARK

Youth Culture Stockport have embraced digital technology so visitors can get a more enriched experience when visiting Bramhall Park, Stockport.

YCS have created a trail of geocaches in Bramhall Park which go ‘live’ from Thursday 11^th April.

The trail takes Geocachers on a circular route around Bramall Hall, taking in key areas including the old approach to the Hall.  Caches include items such as old photos of the Hall and cryptic clues to enable their discovery.

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. People either require a GPS device or GPS-enabled mobile phone to navigate to the cache plus a www.geocaching.com membership.

Geocaches are found all over the world, and it’s common for geocachers to hide caches in locations that are important to them reflecting a special interest or skill of the cache owner.  

Councillor Iain Roberts, Lead Councillor for Tourism, said:
“This is an exciting new-style treasure hunt flavoured with local history and it’s fun for all ages. As the weather improves, I recommend that people try out the new geocache trail.  I wish to thank the young people from Youth Culture Stockport for their time and input into the trail.”

Stockport’s Youth Culture is a group of young people from Hazel Grove who volunteer with the Council’s Culture & Leisure Service. The group meets Bramall Hall staff to work on a variety of tasks such as conservation, cleaning and Victorian cooking and has been instrumental in creating a young people’s strand for a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund which will include improvements to the interpretation of Bramall Hall, more accessible facilities, and wider range of activities at the Hall along with upgrading the Stable Block.
