The Grounds team at Stockport County’s Edgeley Park stadium have once again been highly commended at the EFL Grounds Team of the Season awards.
This year is the fourth consecutive season that Head Groundsman Liam Cash and his team have been recognised in the awards. The team won the award for best pitch in League Two during the 2023/24 season, and were one of two highly commended clubs acknowledged in League One last season. This year, they have once again been highly commended, highlighting their incredible consistency, narrowly missing out to Blackpool for the overall award.
After visits from members of the STRI (Sports Turf Research Institute), awards are handed out considering criteria such as pitch quality, environmental conditions and usage, resources, management, and sustainability.
The Grounds Team at County do an outstanding job year in, year out to ensure that the Edgeley Park playing surface is amongst the very best across the entire EFL, giving us a pitch to be proud of and providing the perfect platform for Dave Challinor’s team to perform on a matchday.
Whatever the weather, their hard work and dedication ensures the pitch is always in pristine condition, and has allowed County to play additional academy and Ladies games at Edgeley Park this season.
Head Groundsman, Liam Cash said:
“It’s great to be around this discussion year on year as consistency of pitch quality, regardless of how fixtures, weather etc impact on us, is always our main focus. Providing the best possible surface for the club with the tools we have, is something myself and my team relish doing each and every season.”
County COO, Gavin Bailey said:
“Congratulations to our outstanding grounds team, led by Liam Cash, on achieving a ‘Highly Commended’ recognition in this season’s EFL League One Grounds Team Awards. This is a true testament to you and your team’s relentless pursuit of excellence. Year after year, you continue to set the benchmark for quality, professionalism, and pride across our first-team pitch and training ground surfaces, and we couldn’t be prouder.”
