As Noddy Holder once screeched dementedly: It’s Christmas! That means it’s time to let down our tinselled hair at the office party, have a few drinks but it can also be a worrying time for employers, friends and family.
A few hangovers are almost inevitable, perhaps a few red faces but what is really important is that we all keep safe and, for some that can be a bit of a challenge. Stockport council have launched their seasonal ‘Prepare to Party’ campaign – a reminder to have fun but keep safe.
Sharing some tips and words of advice can help us all to have fun:
- Eat – either before you go out or throughout the evening
- Drink Spacers – alternate drinks with water or soft drinks
- Plan – how to get home; have taxi number and money
- Stay Together – look after anyone who may have over indulged
- Walk Away – it’s never worth having an alcohol fuelled argument
- Beware the Beer Goggles effect
- Don’t Get Spiked – don’t accept drinks from strangers, watch your glass
- Keep Your Stuff Safe – money and phones are a target at party time
- Escape – from signs of physical / verbal abuse
- Don’t take advantage of a vulnerable situation!
And the morning after:
- Drink water when you get home and in the morning
- Take paracetamol for a headache
- Eat
- Don’t drive
- Don’t have a ‘hare-of-the-dog’
- Catch up on sleep
- Relax
BUT, most importantly, have a fantastic, safe Christmas and a very happy New Year.
