Exciting events, festive markets, free parking and late night shopping are just some of the great things on offer in Stockport this Christmas.
Celebrations kick off with Merseyway Shopping Centre’s Christmas light switch-on event on Wednesday 13 November. The Council will be providing FREE parking from 2pm in its pay and display car parks and bays in the town centre.
Shoppers can find everything they need for the festive season with a wide variety of high street shops and small independents, both in the town centre and in the district and local centres. Town centre shoppers can hop aboard the free Metroshuttle bus which runs every 12 minutes.
Many shops in the town centre will be opening late until 8pm every Wednesday until 11 December, then every evening from Monday 16 – Monday 23 December (excluding Sunday 22 December).
The Council is offering FREE parking in Council-owned pay and display car parks and bays in the town centre all day on Sunday 1, 8, 15 and 22 December. Free parking is also available from 2pm every day from Monday 16 – Tuesday 24 December.
Visitors to Bramhall, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Edgeley (except Armoury Street), Hazel Grove, Marple, Reddish and Romiley can also park for FREE in Council-owned car parks on Saturdays 30 November and 7, 14 and 21 December.
Festive events are being held across the borough including Reddish, Heaton Moor, Bramhall, Marple and Cheadle. Stockport’s visitor attractions are also offering family-friendly events including a Christmas Fair at Stockport Town Hall, Boutique Designer Craft Show at Staircase House and wartime sing-alongs at Air Raid Shelters.
Festive and specialist markets will be on offer in the town centre, Reddish, Bramhall and Marple with great ideas for gifts, festive food and decorations.
Councillor Iain Roberts, Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said:
“The festive period is a great time to get involved with local events and rediscover what’s going on in your community. Our town centre and districts have all the ingredients for a fun-filled Christmas, so I’d encourage people to stay local and make the most of Stockport this Christmas!”
