Greater Manchester remains in Tier 3
The decision to keep Greater Manchester subject to the harshest restrictions angered some, including Altrincham MP Sir Graham Brady, who notes: “In nine of the 10 boroughs rates are below the national average.”
Following the Governments review of coronavirus induced restrictions, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced that Greater Manchester, along with most regions in England will remain in the higher tier 3 level of restrictions for at least the next two weeks. Speaking to the House of Commons, Mr Hancock said there are over 18,000 people in hospital with the virus and confirmed only two areas of the UK would see their local alert level lowered ahead of Christmas while in London and a number of other areas including Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Hertfordshire will move up a tier, along with parts of Surrey, East Sussex, Cambridgeshire and Hampshire, meaning 38 million people will be subject to the strictest – tier three – rules.
