The Cycle September initiative, supported by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), will take place again in 2022 to help individuals and organisations achieve health, wellness, and sustainability goals.
Free for anyone (13+) who lives, works or studies in Greater Manchester, Cycle September aims to encourage more people to travel by bike, either for commuting and other journeys, as well as for pleasure by inviting people to track how far they can travel by bike in September for the chance to be entered into prize draws.
Workplaces can also sign up to host staff leaderboards, as well as compete against other similar sized organisations both locally, and nationally, and encourage colleagues to switch cars for handlebars where they can.
As more organisations and individuals are thinking about sustainability, cost-saving, health, and wellbeing, it’s a great time to promote riding a bike. Organisations that take part in Cycle September will benefit from:
- Happier and healthier staff, reporting fewer sick days and increased productivity
- Free and virtual programme, whether staff work from home or in the office and open to full-time, part-time and casual workers
- Increased physical activity can improve colleagues’ mental wellbeing
- Contributions to reducing carbon impact, improving air quality, cutting noise pollution from traffic and easing traffic congestion
- Demonstrating responsible leadership and safeguard employee health and wellbeing
Taking part in Cycle September is easy: people can ride whenever and wherever they like throughout September; it’s not about the number of miles they ride, it’s about taking part, having fun, and promoting the many benefits of riding a bike. Once someone has been for a ride, they log it on the Love to Ride site, or through connecting with the Strava or MapMyRide apps, to earn points and gain entries into prize draws.
Last year 51,879 riders from 6,941 businesses took part, and this year is going to be bigger and better. There are over 700 prizes to be won and leaderboards that are split by size and industry – so even if your workplace is small, you can still aim for the top spot. Find out more and register your organisation via the Love to Ride GM website.
