Countryside Partnerships has been awarded the £25 million contract to deliver a new care home at Woodford Garden Village on the site of the former Woodford aerodrome.
Plans were approved in Spring 2022 for a three-storey 87-home apartment scheme for older residents, alongside 17 two-bedroom bungalows. Homes will be made available through a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership programmes.
Brewster Bye Architects worked with development consultancy, Pegasus Group, and civil and structural engineering consultancy, Perega, on the scheme.
Plans were brought forward by non-profit provider of housing and care for people in later life, Anchor, and bring the total number of new homes in the garden village scheme to 920.
Ian Hilliker, managing director of Countryside Partnerships Merseyside and Cheshire West, said:
“As one of the UK’s largest providers of mixed tenure homes, we believe it is vitally important to build quality homes for older people that meet their day-to-day needs.
“We have extensive experience delivering extra care developments around the UK, and we’re very pleased to be working with Anchor, the leader in this sector, to provide this new care centre in Stockport.”
Lisa Walters, head of commissioning at Anchor, said:
“We’re excited to bring this new community to the area where every resident will be able to enjoy well-designed, affordable homes as well as a host of onsite communal facilities that will enable residents to live independently, yet have support on hand, should they need it.
“Starting construction at this exciting new development is a key step in achieving Anchor’s goals, to create more homes where people can love living in later life.”
As well as housing, Woodford Garden Village will see the development of new green spaces, commercial office space, and a pub and primary school on the site of BAE Systems former Woodford Aerodrome, which closed in 2011. Redrow are the lead developers behind the project.
