Stockport Council has reminded residents that two ongoing consultations in the borough will close on 4th January.
The council is seeking to hear views from Marple residents on proposals for a new community hub to replace the existing library and pool with a modern, purpose-built facility. Additionally, the council is planning to develop services to support carers in the borough, and is seeking to hear from residents to inform plans.
Marple Leisure and Community Hub
In Marple, the council are seeking views on a number of proposals for a new Marple Leisure and Community hub for the village. The existing pool has been closed since 2018, while gym facilities have also had to close due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Major roof works are also required to prevent water ingress into the gym and it is not economically viable to make this investment when a replacement facility is being planned. Options are currently being investigated for alternative fitness provision in the area while Stockport Council continues with the possible development of a Marple Leisure and Community Hub.
Residents can view the plans through the council’s consultation website and have until 4th January 2021 to submit their feedback on proposals compiled by GT3 Architects. Information boards have also been placed outside Marple Library and Marple Pool. The council is specifically looking to hear thoughts on proposed spaces and facilities available, and the site location, as well as the preferred option of the three being presented. A dedicated youth survey is also taking place to hear the views of younger residents.

Carers service consultation
Stockport Council would like to develop a carer’s service that works for all of the estimated 32,000 unpaid carers across Stockport.
The council would like to hear from residents (those who are carers, those no longer in a caring role and those who have not had any carer responsibilities) to inform future plans. Residents’ feedback will help to ensure the service meets the needs of unpaid carers in Stockport.
Proposals are part of the council’s commitments to improve the offer and quality of services available for residents who are carers.
To contribute your views on future carers services, visit the Stockport Council consultation website to complete the online form.
