A consultation on an updated blueprint for transport investment across the North of England closes today (Thursday 17th August) after 12 weeks.
Sub-national transport body, Transport for the North (TfN), has been inviting feedback on its revised Strategic Transport Plan for the region, which sets out its proposals for investing in the region’s poor transport infrastructure, which is holding back the region’s economic potential.
TfN’s plans focus on three strategic ambitions for 2050: transforming economic performance, rapid decarbonisation of the transport network, and significantly reducing transport related social exclusion.
Lord McLoughlin, Chair of Transport for the North, said:
“Better connectivity is?absolutely essential?to the long-term economic success of?our?region, and we want to see a transport network that works for everyone in the North.
“We’ve had a fantastic response to our revised Strategic Transport Plan consultation so far, with hundreds of comments received already and there’s still time to respond if you haven’t done so yet. The Plan is the North’s voice on strategic transport priorities, so hearing from as many people and businesses as possible across our region is vital.”
The Consultation on TfN’s Strategic Transport Plan launched on 25th May and ran for 12 weeks via a virtual consultation room on the organisation’s website, and at in-person events across the North of England. Responses from the public will be analysed and incorporated into the final plan, due to be put before the region’s political and business leaders later this year for approval.
The final Strategic Transport Plan is due to be published in early 2024.
