The government has announced a new competition to bid for £12.09 million of funding via a new Digital Growth Grant to provide support for small tech firms and digital start-ups.
The scheme focuses on opening up access to skills training and support services to the digital and tech sector over two years and help grow regional support networks across the UK.
With over 40 ‘unicorn’ firms outside London (valued over $1 billion) and a further 100 ‘futurecorns’ on track for that status, the grant aims to drive the next generation of innovative digital businesses and cement the UK as a major centre for the global digital economy via tech hubs in all nations and regions.
Digital Minister Chris Philp said:
“Start ups and scale ups are hugely important to our thriving tech sector. This funding is dedicated to growing these innovative businesses wherever they are in the country, providing the support and skills they need to succeed and create good jobs and generate wealth.
“The successful applicant will play a vital role in making the UK the best place in the world to start and scale a tech business.”
The competition will be run this summer by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the successful organisation will receive the funding from 1st April 2023. DCMS is currently consulting with the market to refine the grant specifications.
