Students from Together Trust‘s Bridge College have been taking part in The Whitworth’s Circuit WARP Festival by producing a technological installation.
The two-day free festival is set to showcase art and music from 15-25 year olds from Greater Manchester is taking place on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 June.
The specialist college run by North West charity, the Together Trust is a regional centre of excellence in the education of young people and adults who have learning difficulties and physical disabilities.
Along with providing specialist education, the charity provides residential care, community support and fostering to over 2,300 people each year.
Inside/Outside
The theme for the project is ‘Inside/Outside’ and students from across the college have been helping to create an interactive shed.
In all, thirty six students have been helping to build the installation with the support of Hulme Garden Centre. The sheds will be filled with art created by students including interactive plants, clouds, umbrellas and trees.
Visitors will be able to explore the shed to their own music and visual art. Teacher at Bridge College, Jonah Stancolme, explained how the students have been using the project to learn more about music.
He said, “Our students have been taking on different roles as part of this creative process, exploring sounds that they hear inside and outside and exploring the sound properties of different materials.
“Students have recorded these sounds along with traditional instruments in order to produce a soundscape that will be played when visitors interact with the different parts of the shed.”
Denise Bowler, Secondary and Post-16 Coordinator at The Whitworth, added, “Working with students and staff from Bridge College has been a wonderful and creative learning experience.
“Through this collaboration, we have developed a sonic gallery tour. I can’t wait to see their shed installation at WARP festival – it’s going to be amazing!”
The festival will be open between 12-9pm on Saturday and 11am-5pm Sunday at The Whitworth on Oxford Road.
