Stockport College has secured the duo ‘Blank Cheque’ to perform at Broadstone Mill Fashion show next Thursday evening.
Since the age of six, brothers Tom and Josh Phillips, aka Blank Cheque, have been honing their skills playing their respective instruments, enjoying practice and gigs alike.
Tom plays guitar and manages the loop pedal whilst providing backing vocals. Having achieved all his guitar grades Tom draws influences from several genres including jazz, indie, swing, rock and blues.
Josh plays saxophone and is lead vocalist. Beginning with the clarinet Josh progressed onto the alto sax as soon as he could physically lift the instrument. Passing all five jazz grades Josh is currently focussing on jazz styles but takes influences from swing, blues, rock and more modern musicians such as Arctic Monkeys and the Killers.
Blank Cheque have been performing for over two years locally at various types of events. These range from Drybar Manchester, (performing their own compositions), charity events, (helping to raise funds and awareness for teenage cancer trust), competitions, (winning Headlander festival Teenage Open Mic earlier this year), weddings, birthday parties and a host of pubs in the area.
