Manchester-based retailer, Co-op, has submitted plans to erect a new convenience store on the site of the former Dog and Partridge pub in High Lane.
The site, which has lain disused since the pub closed in 2020, is on the southern side of Buxton Road within High Lane, close to the local centre’s two existing shopping parades.
The retail plans to demolish the existing pub building on the site and build a single storey convenience store in its place, along with 28-space car park for staff and customers. The shop will comprise a 485.4 sq m store, in addition to 167.5 sq m of back-of-house space, along with an external cashpoint on the side of the building.
With proposed opening hours of 7am to 11pm, Monday to Sunday, the shops aims to offer local residents with basket or ‘top-up’ shopping in between larger weekly shops, while also attract business from those passing through High Lane on the A6.
The Co-op anticipate the store on the former pub site will create 4 full-time and 14 part-time jobs, or the equivalent of 10 full-time positions, providing employment opportunities for High Lane residents, including training, long-term career opportunities and apprenticeship options for young people in the village.
