There has been a lot of coverage in the press recently surrounding Drones, also known as UAV’s (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) most of it negative and in a lot of cases rightly so. However, in the right hands, adhering to the correct code of practice they can provide stunning imagery, tell a story and create beautiful films.
Stockport based Cloud 9 Film Company was set up last October to do exactly that, with years of experience making TV adverts and marketing films for national brands they have ventured to higher levels – literally.
However, what they thought would be a simple step of purchasing the equipment and start making films, they quickly realised, to fly commercially you are sharing the same airspace as Police Helicopters, Air Ambulance, Microlights and the passenger jets from Manchester Airport. Of course, with that comes a lot of rules and regulations and a huge amount of responsibility. Drones can fly to 1km high and more !
Following theory exams, flight tests, steep learning curves in Air Law and completion of a 60 page Operations Manual document, thier commitment to safety and good practice was set. Cloud 9 Film Company are proud to now have PFAW (Permission for Aerial Work) from the Civil Aviation Authority and BNUCs qualification that allows them to film and fly commercially.
Joint partners Dominic Marsden and Steve Jones have worked creatively on a wide range of clients for a number of years and telling a story is what they like doing best.
“We’ve always loved telling our clients story in an interesting and engaging way, but with ‘Griffin01’ (our drone that was named after the pub we agreed to set up Cloud 9 Films), we now have the tools to deliver emotive and stunning films that have literally taken us to another level…and this we see as our point of difference. We do more than just put the drone in the air, we use our years of filming experience to not only capture the best possible shots, we also think how each shot will link to the next to best tell that story”
Why not see your business from another angle.
