Cityheart, the development and town centre regeneration specialist behind Stockport’s Interchange and Stopford Park schemes, has been shortlisted for two more awards with its partners Stockport Council, TfGM, GMCA and Rise Homes.
The Interchange has been shortlisted in the “Built to Rent” category, in the North West Insider Residential Awards which take place in January ‘25. Since completing earlier this year in May, the apartment complex overlooking the town centre’s new transport interchange is now 73% tenanted, with a further 7% of properties in clearing and only 20% left available to renters.
The Interchange was one of the first placemaking schemes for the Stockport MDC, a project that has since anchored other regeneration and placemaking projects. It was the first major residential project on Cityheart’s journey in Stockport, working alongside build-to-rent specialist Rise Homes.
In June, The Interchange also won ‘Community Impact of the Year’ at the Cowgills North West Homebuilders Awards as well as winning the ‘Best Funding Structure’ at The International Partnership Awards earlier this year. In recent weeks the team has also secured the “BTR Partnership Award” at the Build to Rent Awards in London.
Cityheart has also been shortlisted in the Urban and City Living Developer of the Year category for its work across the wider north west region, including Stopford Park (a redevelopment of the former Stockport college site) which launched earlier this year.
This 442-apartment scheme on Greek Street and Wellington Road was rebranded Stopford Park in line with Cityheart’s vision to create a new neighborhood community and landscaped public realm in the heart of the town.
The new homes will span three principle residential buildings and work is well underway on site. The 115,000 sq ft Torkington building will be converted into 122 apartments, while the 60,000 sq ft Lyme Centre will be demolished and replaced with a 16-storey apartment block, called Lyme, which comprises 258 units. A third building, Bosden, will provide 62 homes for sale and will be the first building to be delivered on the site. Finally, a grade-two listed Greek Street Building, the former Metropolitan Girls’ School, will be converted into a collaborative co-working space for local businesses called “Cheers & Smith”.
Commenting on the award shortlisting Jonny Wrigley, Group Chief Executive of Cityheart said:
“We’re looking forward to the North West Insider Residential Awards in January and are very proud to have been shortlisted in these two key categories alongside some very strong competition. Being able to deliver such a complex and successful project as The Interchange has been a key highlight for us this year, and building strong relationships with Stockport Council and GMCA has been critical to that success.”
