Carecall, Stockport’s 24/7 telemonitoring and falls response service, have put out a call for donations of entertainment packages for local residents in self-isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic.
During June, the team have been delivering complimentary ‘entertainment packages’ for those who are at high risk and unable to leave their homes.
To date, over 150 entertainment packages have been delivered to vulnerable Stockport residents and these packages have been filled with: DVDs, audio-books, VHS tapes, puzzles, books and sweet treats. These have been delivered on top of Carecall’s day job which has seen the team answer over 40,000 calls since lockdown and attend over 1,000 homes in this period to help people get back on their feet. During the Covid-19 crisis Carecall staff have called every one of their customers to check on their wellbeing.

Kind donations and fundraising days have allowed Carecall’s team to deliver these packages but now they are urgently asking Stockport residents to get in touch and donate any spare entertainment items that will put a smile on someone else’s face. These ‘entertainment packages’ have also been accompanied by poems, letters and drawings created by the community to help boost the morale of self-isolating Stockport residents. Carecall found people to create this material through their Facebook campaign called #KeepStockportSmiling.
Jenny Osbourne, Chair of the Board at Stockport Homes, which delivers Carecall in partnership with Stockport Council, said:
The team at Stockport Homes are so proud to deliver Carecall’s technology enabled living service on behalf of Stockport Council. We are even more proud to do everything we can to ensure our community stays safe during these unprecedented times.
“As many restrictions on staying at home begin to lift, it’s easy to believe many things are going to back to normal but unfortunately for many people in society and in Stockport, this won’t happen. With many Stockport residents having to remain at home, we want to ensure they have something that keeps them smiling.”
