A CHARITY shop that raises money to support people living with cancer and their families has been broken into – causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Marketing Stockport member Beechwood Cancer Care Centre’s charity shop on Finney Lane, Heald Green, was found ransacked yesterday morning, Wednesday, June 8, when a volunteer arrived to open up for the day.
They discovered that the back door had been kicked in, the till had been smashed to the floor and the phone lines cut.
The safe was forced off the wall and taken from the shop with £500 inside, jewellery and clothing were also stolen and the upstairs of the building trashed.
Fundraising manager at Beechwood, Angela Gray, said: “We are absolutely devastated about the break in at our shop in Heald Green, not only is it saddening that people’s kind donations have been taken but the cost of repairs will run into the thousands. The shop will now have to remain closed while a team of volunteers try to tidy up and workmen can fix the damage. I can’t believe that anyone would do this.”
This shocking break in comes as the charity have been mourning the loss of their much loved Chief Executive Allen Whittaker who lost his own battle with cancer last month.
The incident has been reported to the police.
Beechwood is now looking for volunteers to help with the clean up and repairs, if you can help, please contact Angela Gray on 0161 476 0384.
