Businesses looking to grow their overseas sales are being invited to apply for grants of up to £9,000 from the Department of International Trade’s (DIT) Internationalisation Fund.
The government department is offered match-funding of between £1,000 and £9,000 for businesses looking to invest in their capacity to export goods and services.
Funding can be used for SMEs in England to help cover the costs of exploring their ability to export. The DIT grants can be used to support areas including market research, translation services, international digital marketing efforts such as SEO or localised social media, trade fairs and independent market visits, and other consultancy services or advice on trading overseas.
The £38 million fund was announced in October 2020 to support 7,600 SMEs across England to begin exporting as part of a raft of initiatives aimed at helping the UK economy recover following the first Covid-19 lockdown. The fund is managed by four regional projects, with the North-west covered by the Northern Powerhouse Internationalisation Fund, and supported by regionally based International Trade Advisers throughout the UK.
The DIT’s Internationalisation Fund is supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and is available to access for businesses in England with fewer than 250 employees and an annual turnover below €50 million. The DIT grants scheme is set to run until March 2023.
