The first local Gin to come from Stockport – Stockport Gin – is launched this week by a husband and wife team at their home distillery in the village of Compstall.
Set on the doorstep to Etherow Country Park, this will be the first gin to come from Stockport made by husband and wife team Paul and Cheryl Sharrocks.
Architectural Team Leader Paul and Hairdresser Cheryl are budding entrepreneurs and given the recent boom in the Gin industry, saw a gap in the market to turn their love of gin into a business based in Stockport and branded to reflect the town itself.
Cheryl, 38, said:
“Wherever we go, we always want to try the local Gin and what we soon came to realise is that Stockport doesn’t have its own and so Stockport Gin was born!”
The Gin, made using 8 botanicals including locally sourced pine needles from Etherow Park, is already causing huge interest across Stockport and beyond following the launch of the companies social media channels earlier in the year. The botanicals used to flavour the gin were chosen based on Paul and Cheryl’s personal taste as it was important to them to create a gin that they both loved and they hope others will too.
Paul and Cheryl, both from Stockport met watching Stockport County in 2006, run the business from their home distillery and are involved in every step of the process together from selecting the botanicals, making the Gin, bottling it and even labelling it.
Paul, 34 explained:
“Its been a long process to get to this point and has involved a lot of hard work but we are now really excited to launch our gin and put Stockport on the Gin map.”
Stockport Gin are the proud sponsors of the Gin Jamboree to be held at Stockport Town Hall this coming Friday 22nd March, where the people of Stockport will get to try Stockport’s local gin for the very first time. Everyone who attends the Gin Jamboree will get their first gin and tonic included in the entry fee and that of course will be Stockport Gin.
Following the Gin Jamboree, the Gin will be available to buy via the website and you will be able to meet Paul and Cheryl at events all across Stockport in the coming months.
