Brinnington Jobs Fair welcomes over 120 job seekers

Over 120 job seekers were welcomed to a Jobs Fair, organised by Stockport Council and partner organisations at Brinnington Community Centre.

The event was targeted at those who are looking to return to employment after a career break, or people who are starting work for the first time. All ages were welcomed, and there was also support on hand with the rising cost of living, and work preparation such as CV-writing and interview practice.

The event was held as part of the council’s drive to make employment in the borough fairer and more inclusive for everyone. The jobs fair garnered positive feedback from all attendees, with one commenting:

“I loved coming here. It was a well conducted jobs fair and I hope to see many more in the Brinnington area.” Another resident added: “I have recently been made redundant and this was my first jobs fair. It was brilliant, with lots of helpful information.”

One stall was hosted by Stockport Council’s Business Support department. James Healey, Business Support Operations Manager, said:

“We are looking for hard-working, flexible candidates with a willingness to learn and develop new skills and experience. We have a wide range of roles to suite all candidates, and you don’t necessarily have to have experience in business support to apply.”

Georgina Marsden, a Team Leader in the Business Support team, added:

“The jobs fair was great as we got to meet candidates from all different backgrounds and explain to them what we do here in Business Support: many people didn’t even know these roles existed within the council.”

A local business partner who also hosted a stall at the jobs fair was Robinsons, a Stockport-based brewery who have hospitality sites across the UK. Heather Rick, Customer Hub Manager at Robinsons Brewery, commented:

“We are a remote working customer service team who deal with customer enquiries. Many people think of working for Robinsons as solely working in our pubs and restaurants, but we deal with enquiries from customers across the country. The Brinnington jobs fair was really busy, and it was great to speak to people about our remote roles. We’re just looking for anyone with customer service and IT skills, so it’s really open for those who are looking to get into work.”

Cllr Colin MacAlister, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration, said:

“At Stockport Council we are really keen to expand our job opportunities to encompass everyone in the borough, regardless of their background. Thanks to everyone who was involved in organising such a successful jobs fair, and if you attended I really hope you found it useful and maybe even discovered a new job or career path!
