Developer of the proposed Bredbury Gateway industrial estate, Quorum, has amended its plans for the site, reducing the commercial space by 20%.
1.2 million sq ft of commercial units had been originally proposed for the 76 acre site, adjacent to the existing Bredbury Park Industrial Estate. This figure has since been reduced by 20% to increase green space on the site, and also reduces the total area developed by 30%.
Neighbouring Tameside Council had lodged concerns about the scheme with regards to overdevelopment and pressures on infrastructure in the area, in addition to environmental concerns for the River Tame which bounds the site. The development of the site was also an area of contention in the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework, both in Stockport and Tameside.
Quorum has now altered its plans for Bredbury Gateway following discussion with the Council’s planning officers since plans were first submitted in autumn 2019, following a public consultation on the industrial estate scheme.
Quorum’s amended plans now propose one development on 574,000 sq ft employment space with associated infrastructure and landscaping, as well as a car park to serve nearby Stockport Sports Village, along with two separate units totalling 429,000 sq ft.
Plans also include widening and realignment of Bredbury Park Way, and relocation of its junction with Ashton Road, as well as enhancements to Junction 25 if the M60.
Should the proposals be approved, the site could bring up to 1,600 new jobs to Stockport.
The proposed units at the scheme have been designed by AEW Architects, with plans submitted by Lichfields on behalf of Quorum.
