Bramhall Bakery opened in Bramhall, Stockport in May 2012. It is an independent family owned business, focused on bringing excellent quality, fresh baked bread to people in the northwest everyday . The business combines artisan baking skills with business and finance expertise.
The bakery produces an artisan range of sourdoughs, ryes, fruit, savoury and seeded breads as well as more traditional loaves. All the bread is handcrafted and baked from scratch everyday using traditional techniques and quality ingredients to create a great tasting fresh product. The retail outlet also sells a delicious range of lunch foods, buns and cakes.
Scott and Jo Peters set the business up from scratch after moving to Stockport from Melbourne, Australia in late 2011. Jo was expecting to transfer with the global consulting firm where she had been a high flying executive for 13 years, but all did not go to plan due to a last minute recruitment freeze. They took this setback as an opportunity and set about a new challenge, following their dream of building a top quality bakery.
The first step was finding a site and then building the bakery from scratch. “We chose Bramhall because of the village atmosphere and strong support for independent businesses, as well as the market for quality food and drink products in the area.”
Since opening in May the business has grown quickly and taken on 10 members of staff including 3 full time positions one of which is an apprenticeship.
The initial focus is on retail and maximising the retail space and production capabilities in Bramhall. Beyond that, the business is expanding into wholesale, providing premium artisan breads to top local restaurants, cafes, hotels and delis and also looking to develop some innovative ideas for increasing the availability of great bread for the people of Stockport such as delivery and collection schemes.
