Blossoms drummer, Joe Donovan, is backing backing Transport for Greater Manchester’s (TfGM) latest active travel campaign to encourage people to walk more in Stockport and across Greater Manchester, It’s Your Move.
When not touring, the Stopfordian musician makes the most of his downtime walking his dog Pep on routes in Stockport. To promote the campaign, Joe has recorded a short video of one of his favourite morning walks along Fred Perry Way to Bramhall Park. He said:
“It’s just one example of loads of great routes in Greater Manchester.
“I used to get in my car with Pep and drive to a park but instead I’ve decided that I should get up a little bit earlier and walk there.
“Since doing that, I’ve saved money in petrol and felt so much better in myself. Those little changes can make a huge difference.”
TfGM’s It’s Your Move campaign seeks to encourage people to get outdoors and make the most of the cycling, walking and wheeling options on their doorstep, or in neighbouring boroughs in Greater Manchester.
Joe’s video is now available to view on his Instagram page. The Blossoms drummer added:
“Getting out walking is so good for your health. It gets your heart rate up a little bit, you get some fresh air and you surround yourself with nature.
“It’s something I do every morning and it’s something I’m very passionate about.“
The It’s Your Move page, part of the TfGM website, is great place to start for some inspiration, offering a breakdown of options in each borough, including safe cycling and walking routes, free cycling courses, and details of local Cycle and Stride groups.
