Housebuilder, Bloor Homes, has submitted its masterplan for Heald Green East to Stockport Council, with plans for up to 675 homes.
With housing targets nearly doubling under the government’s revised National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), Stockport Council faces an urgent need to identify suitable sites for new homes. Heald Green East has been designed to offer a sustainable solution, and a pre-application consultation in late 2024 saw 63 prospective buyers registered their interest in the development.
Designed to cater to a diverse range of residents, Heald Green East will provide a mix of family homes, downsizer properties, and specialist accommodation, including bungalows. The masterplan also incorporates over 8 hectares (20+ acres) of green space, featuring parks, gardens, children’s play areas, community growing spaces, and dedicated routes for walking, cycling, and running. The development plans include a new local centre that could provide essential services, such as a health clinic, enhancing community wellbeing.
With excellent transport links and existing infrastructure, the development is ideally situated to deliver much-needed homes while preserving Heald Green’s distinctive character. Investment in the site is also expected to create over 500 constructions jobs in the area, and generate additional employment opportunities within the local supply chain, contributing approximately £8.6 million to the local economy from jobs and supporting activities.
Tom Loomes, Senior Planning Manager at Bloor Homes, said:
“ Following our public consultation in November 2024, we are delighted to submit our plans for Heald Green East, a crucial development to help support Stockport’s housing need.
“Bloor Homes has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality homes that people want to live in. We are committed to ensuring that local people have the opportunity to stay in Stockport, in a well-designed home and community that meets their needs.
“We look forward to working with Stockport Council to help deliver the homes the Borough urgently needs.”
The dedicated website for the scheme remains live, where residents can view the masterplan and register interest in a new property.
Bloor Homes were previously developers on the Foxcote development, adjacent to the Heald Green East site, which saw 75% of buyers relocate from within 10 miles, in demonstration of the company’s commitment to building homes that meet local demand.
