Reacting to today’s announcement that the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) Select Committee plans to hold an Inquiry into the UK retail sector, the British Retail Consortium (BRC), welcomed the news and said it came at a pivotal point when the sector is facing considerable challenges and change.
British Retail Consortium Director General Helen Dickinson said:
“This is a positive step which comes at a crucial time for retailers, as the sector continues to face economic challenges while evolving and innovating to meet changing consumer needs. It’s the right time to be considering the nature of these challenges and structural changes, and exploring what more the Government can do to support retailers both now and in the future.
“The right support will enable the sector to maximise its contribution to growth, investment and job creation. We look forward to engaging positively with the Inquiry over the coming weeks.”
Stockport, like many other towns and cities throughout the UK, is looking to overcome the many challenges brought about by the Internet and any help and insight to how this may help Stockport based retailers will be a welcome helping hand.
