The ‘I wish I’d Tried’ initiative has been developed for local Stockport adults aged 25 plus to find out what sports and activities they wish they had tried and to help people to have a go at something new, something they wish they had tried or perhaps a sport they used to do and would like to start doing again. It aims to encourage people to participate in at least one, 30 minute sporting or exercise session per week, and only costs from as little as £1 per week.
Life Leisure works closely with many organisations, including Healthy Stockport and local GP’s across Stockport, to promote health and fitness for the local community.
Ross McGuigan, Adult Participation Officer at Life Leisure:
“ We wanted to consult with the local community, to give them the chance to discuss and shape the programme of activities they are interested in, so they would be convenient to where they live and also the time of day best for them to take part. We are delighted to be able to extend the programme to meet local demand and we will continue to tailor the ‘I wish I’d Tried’ programme to what local people actually want.
He continued:
“The project was created by Life Leisure and we were immensely proud of the feedback from Sport England’s Community Sport Activation Fund. They are hugely supportive of what we are trying to achieve here in Stockport, so much so that they have awarded us £250k from National Lottery funding to develop and roll out the programme.”
