Stockport Homes’ 6th annual free football event for the children of tenants and leaseholders was held at Stockport Sports Centre, Woodley on the 28 August. The event was organised by Stockport Homes in partnership with Stockport County Football Club and Life Leisure.
Over 60 youngsters aged between 8-14 years old came along to show off their footballing skills. They enjoyed a fun filled day with a range of activities such as:
- a mini football tournament;
- free professional coaching with Stockport County coaches and players; and
- a penalty shoot out.
The eight penalty shoot out winners received a trophy and all children who took part in the day were given a medal for taking part, a goody bag with certificates and two free tickets to see a Stockport County match.
Marley Brougham, Customer Involvement Assistant, Stockport Homes said, “It was a great day, we had 60 young people attend and they all seemed to really enjoy it!”
McKenzie Moffat, budding footballer, age 13 from Heaton Norris said, ‘ I met lots of new people.’
Stockport County have worked with Stockport Homes for a number of years doing this annual football event and Matthew Bailey, Assistant Community Foundation Manager said, “I feel this is a great way for the youngsters that live in Stockport Homes’ properties to engage with the caretakers and youth workers that work on their estates. This also gives the youngsters the chance to work alongside their local football club Stockport County FC.”
