Stockport Council is working with families and carers to help raise awareness of autism and the many different effects it can have on people’s lives.
To learn more about autism people can come along to Bredbury Library, George Lane, Bredbury SK6 1DJ on Wednesday 14 August, between 11.00am and 4.00pm. There will be a group of people including families, carers, and support staff answering some of the many questions that people have about autism and how it can affect their lives.
This is the second of a series of events in libraries and other public venues in Stockport that the Council plans to hold during 2013.
The National Autistic Society defines autism as a ‘lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them’.
Councillor Keith Holloway, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Adult Care Services, said:
“I am pleased the Council is actively taking part in raising awareness about autism. There are nearly 3,000 people who have autism in Stockport, many of whom will be able to get on with their lives independently while others will need some support. I would encourage people to go along to Bredbury Library to find out more.”
