ASSURED EVENTS MENTORS BUDDING ENTREPRENEURS

Assured Events was in excellent company this week as MD Karl Perry and BBC’c Steph McGovern attended the Stockport Young Entrepreneurs Competition.

For the seventh year running, Cheadle based Assured Events has mentored a school business club in the Stockport Young Entrepreneurs Competition, organised by Sarah Gower Jones for Stockport Council.

The competition culminated at the Town Hall this week, where 12 judges visited 14 school trade stands and scored each business on different criteria including planning, originality and future potential.  

As well as mentoring Ladybrook Primary School, Assured Events MD, Karl Perry was also one of the judges.  BBC Breakfast Business Correspondent, Steph McGovern was also on hand to help award prizes and reflect on the school businesses.

Karl Perry is inspired by the youngsters’ enthusiasm: 

“Every year the quality of the business ideas and how the children turn them into reality, goes up.  Working with the children of Ladybrook Primary school really is inspirational – they have so much energy and enthusiasm but can be quite ruthless sometimes in their decision making.  They’re not afraid to make some tough calls!

“I’ve already seen what they have planned for next year and I had one of those ‘why hasn’t someone already though of this’ moments when they showed me.  I can’t wait to get working with them again next term!”

Ladybrook unfortunately didn’t win the event this year but were in the silverware, having won ‘Best Trade Stand’ as voted for by all the attending children.

During the seven years of mentoring and judging, Perry has seen over 1000 budding entrepreneurs, some of whom will now have completed A-levels! 

“These kids prove that positivity, creativity and drive to get a job done well, are all in abundance in Stockport – they have all got great futures ahead of them!”
