What started out as a bit of fun for Stockport creative Aqua Design Group to celebrate and showcase fellow small business during the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II in 2012, has grown into a popular social network.
Dylan Moore started out with his #QueenOf and #KingOf day competitions on Twitter
When the competitions first begun, the prize was a personalised digital badge with the winner’s title. As the competition has gathered momentum and credibility throughout the UK, the range of ‘badges’ has expanded with merchandise ideal to giveaway to clients and for publicity purposes.
As the competition stands there are now over 700 #QueenOf winners and over 200 #KingOf winners who regularly take part in Twitter’s #RoyalConnectionHour and winner only groups being set-up on Facebook and LinkedIn.
A winners website has been launched where winners can create a profile, add social media links and upload images about products and services relating to the business – and so theroyalconnection.co.uk was born.
In addition to the profiles, Aqua Design Group highlights 4 winners (2 #QueenOf winners and 2 #KingOf winners) each month on the front page of the website.
Scarlett Impressions, a Lincolnshire based #QueenOf winner commented:
“Getting my #QueenOf Crown opened up a whole other world of twitter for me. The #RoyalConnection gave me a community, that has helped me learn more about social media and my own business.
“More than just a badge, this is a group of supportive and encouraging peers from a wide variety of small businesses. A group that you can turn to if you need a product or service because you already know the person that can help and if you don’t they will help steer you in the right direction.
“With Andy and Dylan at the head of this initiative and the work they do to maintain such a wonderful community, it’s not surprising how amazing it is to be a part of it.”
Dylan Moore owner of Aqua Design Group commented
“Going forward with the competition and network I’m already in the planning stages for the first national meet-up event which will be taking place in Manchester in 2019 #TRCevent2019 with guest speakers, winner showcases, winner workshops and a day of fun.”
