Allied Bakeries in Stockport is continuing to keep local people supplied with baked goods during the coronavirus pandemic, having now donated almost 100,000 loaves of Kingsmill bread since March.
The Stockport bakery is currently providing 1,400 loaves of bread a week t the community, in addition to the 20,000 loaves given throughout 2020 as a result of a longstanding relationship with Fareshare.
Teams at the bakery in Stockport are also supporting Stockport Council with their community donations and, always keen on going that extra mile, they are also supporting the ‘Helping Hands’ team in Warrington which specialises in live-in care and offers 24-hour services to surrounding areas.
This activity from Kingsmill follows on from the Allied Bakeries’ food donation programme for local community groups, charities, food banks and frontline service providers that was set up during the first peak of the Covid-19 crisis earlier this year.
Carl Hampson, General Manager at Allied Bakeries Stockport, who bake Kingsmill said
While it’s been an exceptionally difficult time for us all, it’s been amazing to see how local communities rally together for the benefit of others. When the Covid-19 crisis hit in March of this year it was our neighbours, friends and family stepping up to the frontline, and all our team members were immediately keen to support them in any way we could.
“The volume of donations we’ve been able to make has only been possible thanks to our dedicated team of volunteers including the local VCSE (Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise) sector organised through Stockport Borough Council who kindly pick up the freshly baked goods on a daily basis. We’re all proud to have helped provide food for vital personnel, as well as keep the more vulnerable and needy fed throughout the year.”
The donations in Stockport are part of a business-wide effort by Kingsmill and Allied Bakeries to support local communities across the whole of the UK. The eight bakeries across the UK have donated nearly 450,000 Kingsmill loaves and other bakery goods to local hospitals, ambulance services, police handling headquarters, schools, fire stations, care homes and charities, creating food packs for the vulnerable and food banks.
As a company, Allied Bakeries’ donations this year have totalled the equivalent of over 2.1 million meals across the UK.
