Supermarket chain, Aldi, has announced it will offer a finders’ fee to people who recommend suitable sites for a new stores nationwide, including in Cheadle.
Cheadle, along with Wilmslow and West Didsbury, is among a list of key locations targeted by the discount retailer in a bid to grow its market share, currently at a record 9%.
The retailer is looking for freehold town-centre or edge-of-centre sites over 1.5 acres that could accommodate a 20,000 sq ft supermarket and 100 parking spaces. Ideal sites for Aldi will also be close to a main road, with good visibility for passing traffic and easy access for shoppers.
George Brown, National Property Director at Aldi UK, said:
“By opening more Aldi stores, we can provide affordable, high-quality food to even more people.
“But despite our growth in recent years, some people still don’t have access to a local store, which is why it is our mission to continue on with our ambitious growth plans and change that.
“Our finder’s fee is available to anyone who can find Aldi an appropriate property so we’d encourage people to share any suitable suggestions and get it touch.”
To aid its search, Aldi has announced it will pay organisations and members of the public who successfully recommend a suitable site with either 1.5% of the freehold purchase price or 10% of the first year’s rent on leasehold sites.
The finders fee on offer will match that promised by German supermarket rival, Lidl, which also revealed earlier this year it was looking to open new stores in the Stockport area.
