North West-based giant Adidas is leading the way when it comes to making an impact on social media, according to a major new piece of research from Admiral PR.
Of the 200 biggest companies in the North West and North East of England, the top performer on social media is Adidas with a further six North West companies inside the top ten.
Admiral PR conducted the extensive qualitative and quantitative research to mark the launch of SociaLIGHT – a sophisticated measurement tool that examines over 15 different social media and online ‘markers’, ultimately awarding companies a mark out of 100 to indicate their success.
Adidas scored 83 per cent, with customer engagement via its own website as well as Facebook and Twitter being particularly advanced.
Georgie Cameron, founder and MD of Admiral
PR (pictured left) said:
“Businesses are increasingly understanding
that social media has an important role in
their sales and communications strategies,
but many are not sure how best to use these
channels and how to track their progress
effectively. That is why we have developed
SociaLIGHT.
“As part of our research, we created an index
of the top 200 companies in the North West
and North East. The results show that Adidas
achieves the top ranking of the index because
of its outstanding level of engagement with
customers on various platforms. We can also
see that social media has been taken very
much to the heart of the organisation.”
An Adidas spokesperson commented:
“It’s great news to top an index of this kind – focused entirely on how well we’ve utilised social media to communicate with our UK customer base. Although we could never have expected this a decade ago, the explosion of social media called for a change in strategy and has fundamentally transformed the way we do business.
“Online communications via our blog and website, or in communities such as Twitter and Facebook, lie at the heart of how we connect with those who matter – our customers and the world around us. Topping Admiral PR’s Index is a reflection of how we have changed the way we engage and interact as a brand. Social media has given us an instant, direct connection with individuals that we’ve never had previously, and has helped us to improve and innovate based on powerful customer feedback and intel.”
Admiral says the Top 200 SociaLIGHT index is just the start – only eight companies out of the Top 200 achieved scores over 50 out of 100.
Georgie Cameron said:
“SociaLIGHT gives a clear picture of the level of social media engagement among Northern businesses today and it shows that many companies are still at the beginning of their social media journey. That is not surprising.
“The impact that social media can have is very often underestimated by a lot of organisations but things are beginning to change. SociaLIGHT gives companies an opportunity to see how they compare with their competitors and where progress can be made.”
