Flintshire based housebuilders, Anwyl Group, have revealed ambitions to develop over 80 new homes on the former Focus School site in Heaton Mersey.
Anwyl Partnerships, the specialist residential land and build development arm of the group, has acquired the site for an undisclosed sum. The site has been disused since 2019, when the independent school operated by the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, moved to a new campus outside the borough.
Planning consent for the Heaton Mersey site was already approved for 34 dwellings in 2020, however, Anwyl Group are looking to more than double the density of housing on the site, bringing forward 82 new homes in the Stockport suburb.
Sam Oliver, land director at Anwyl Partnerships, said:
“The Focus school site represents an exceptional acquisition for Anwyl and is a continuation of our activities and investment in Stockport and the wider Greater Manchester region.
“The former proposals which obtained planning consent more than two years ago will need to be reconsidered to ensure we create a viable scheme that can unlock the site, delivering much needed housing in Stockport through our flexible mixed tenure approach. “
The North Walian developer is now in the process of drafting new plans for the site ahead of a consultation with the local community on its plans before a formal planning application is submitted to Stockport Council.
Anwyl Group is also currently awaiting a decision on another Stockport scheme in Cheadle Hulme, where it hopes to bring forward 66 apartments off Ladybridge Lane.
