HEADLINES & UPDATES:
Self-isolation to be scrapped for double-vaccinated and children
Fully vaccinated people in England will not have to self-isolate if a close contact tests positive for Covid from 16 August, the health secretary says.
Sajid Javid told MPs the same policy would also apply to anyone under the age of 18 from that date. The government would give more details this week on self-isolation rules for international travel, he added.
Heathrow to trial fast-track for full vaccinated arrivals
Fully vaccinated people arriving on two of the world’s biggest airlines will be fast-tracked at Heathrow airport in a new pilot scheme. Passengers on selected flights – from Athens, Los Angeles, Montego Bay and New York – will be able to upload their vaccination status before boarding. The trial hopes to show how pre-departure and arrival checks of vaccination status can be carried out at check in, so fully vaccinated passengers can avoid quarantine from 19 July. The government is due to update on removing the need for fully-vaccinated arrivals from amber list countries to isolate.
Covid bubbles to be axed in England’s schools
Education Secretary Gavin Williamson said the system of sending “bubbles” of children home after a positive case would cease at the end of summer term.
The bubble system had been necessary to limit virus spread but was now causing disruption to pupils’ lives, he said.
Teaching unions warned against easing rules as cases are still rising.
The changes to school’s guidance will take effect at the same time as the country eases restrictions and moves to stage four. This is expected to be on 19 July – with confirmation of this due next Monday.
However, some schools break up a few days before that.

REGIONAL & LOCAL NEWS:
Andy Burnham responds to plans to end Covid restrictions
Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, has used his fortnightly press conference this week to respond to the government’s plans to end Covid-19 restrictions on July 19th, including the mandatory wearing of face coverings in a number of indoor settings. Mr Burnham confirmed that the wearing of face coverings would not be enforced on public transport in Greater Manchester, arguing that differing rules for the city-region could be confusing for passengers, and that the local government only had powers to enforce stricter rules on the tram network. However, he also encouraged Greater Manchester residents to continue using face coverings in shops and on public transport despite the government’s relaxation of restrictions.
Hilton Hotels coming to Stockport
Create Developments has exchanged contracts with Stockport Council for a Hampton by Hilton development in the town centre. It is anticipated that the scheme would help to protect and create construction jobs and apprenticeships, as well as provide more than 40 new hospitality jobs.

From Step 4, close contacts with be identified by NHS Test and Trace. We have also updated the guidance for testing over the summer and autumn term. HOSPITALITY:
Pub chain Wetherspoon has criticised the UK government for prioritising supermarkets over the hospitality industry.
In a statement issued today (July 7), the company spoke out against the “unfairness” regarding VAT across the two sectors. The firm stated: “Supermarkets pay zero VAT on food, but pubs and restaurants pay 20 per cent, in normal circumstances. The chancellor reduced VAT on food for the hospitality industry to 5 per cent last year, still above the rate paid by supermarkets, which was nonetheless welcome. “However, it is now proposed that VAT returns to 20 per cent, in stages, in the next year. The interim rise to VAT of 12.5 per cent, in September 2021, will result in Wetherspoon having to increase food prices by around 40 pence per meal. The VAT rise will make the entire hospitality industry less competitive vis a vis powerful supermarket.”

Housebuilder reports robust sales and “very strong order book”
Housebuilder Redrow has said it expects turnover in its current financial year to rise back up to more than £2bn as it benefits from a robust sales market and a “very strong order book”. The forecast was made in a trading update for the financial year to 27 June 2021 in which Redrow said it expects turnover for 2021 to be about £1.94bn. That is up from £1.34bn in 2020 and moving back towards the £2.11bn reported in 2019. Legal completions during 2021 rose from 4,032 to 5,620. A continuing strong sales market combined with the tapering of the stamp duty holiday at the end of June has resulted in Redrow’s homes turnover in the regional businesses being ahead of expectations. In addition, in June the group completed the final phase of a PRS sector scheme in London ahead of schedule adding £43m to turnover in the 2021 financial year.
Agent: Urban rental demand rising as Manchester sees double-digit growth
Rental demand has started to return to the majority of major UK cities during the second quarter of this year, with all but a handful of London boroughs also seeing an uplift. Research by lettings agency Barrows and Forrester looks at rental listings across all of the major property portals, taking an average demand score for the nation’s major cities based on where has the highest number of properties already let as a percentage of all rental listings. The analysis of 23 major UK cities found that rental demand is currently at 33 per cent on average, up from 23 per cent a year ago in the second quarter of 2020. There have been notable uplifts across a number of cities, with 12 locations from Bournemouth to Cambridge, Bristol to Manchester and more, all seeing double-digit growth year on year.

On The Beach is raising £26m in a move designed to provide greater resilience, flexibility and firepower on the back of the disruption caused by the pandemic.
The company has undertaken a non-pre-emptive placing, with a total of 7,870,000 placing shares having been placed by Numis Securities and Peel Hunt at a price of 330 pence each. OTB undertook a number of actions during FY20 in order to trade through the pandemic and exit the disruptive period in a strong position from which to capture market share. This included conserving cash, increasing the total available under its bank facility to £75m and raising £65.1m through a share placing. However, the lockdowns of 2021 have since had a “material impact” on the group’s trading performance due to “exceptionally low levels of consumer demand and a significant number of cancellations”.
