Stockport taxi software firm, Autocab, has revealed it has increased its headcount at its Cheadle headquarters by 25%, creating 30 new positions.
The firm, which is currently being acquired by industry disruptor Uber, plans to continue its recruitment drive as it invests in its research and development divisions, as well as planning further international growth in the coming years.
During the coronavirus pandemic, the software firm has been working to find new ways to support private-hire taxi companies during this time. As well as launching a £500,000 Operator Relief Fund, Autocab has recently developed a new product, Delivery Point, to connect local businesses, restaurants and shops with customers at home, via local taxi companies. CEO, Safa Alkateb explained:
Many of our customers have been hugely effected by the pandemic, so we’ve looked at several ways we can support them. Our Delivery Point offering is one solution that has proved highly successful.
“A delivery service is not something many local operators will have considered before but times have changed. We’re now seeing our customers building partnerships with dozens of local businesses and they have significantly increased the number of daily trips their drivers are making as a result.
“We are making a significant investment into our R&D function, Product, Sales & DevOps to bring new services online, but it is well worth it. Where there was a lot of doom and gloom surrounding the industry at the start of the pandemic, many firms are now seeing huge potential for growth.”
Autocab provides booking and dispatch software to private hire taxi companies, and through its app network, can allow passengers to book taxis across Europe using their local firm’s network. In August, it was announced that US ridesharing giant Uber would acquire the Cheadle-based business, however it will continue to operate independently to provide its technology to the private-hire sector.
