A development of over 200 new homes to be built by Bloor Homes on part of Seashell Trust’s campus in Heald Green have received planning approval from Stockport Council.
202 new homes will be built on the site off Wilmslow Road in Heald Green. The total will also include provision of 57 affordable properties, both through shared ownership and rental schemes. The land was sold by local charity, Seashell Trust, last year and the funds raised will allow the organisation to deliver a brand-new purpose built school for children with complex communication challenges.
Plans also include provision of over 5.5 acres of public green space for residents.
Stockport Council’s Planning & Highways Regulation Committee unanimously approved the development when they met on Thursday 8th July.
The Council had originally opposed Seashell Trust’s plans to sell part of their campus for housing and build a new purpose-built school, however, the decision to deny outline consent for a 325 home scheme was appealed, with the Secretary of State for Housing overturning the council’s ruling. Despite the controversial loss of greenbelt land, the scheme was deemed to deliver significant benefits to the local community in meeting the borough’s housing needs, and through the improvement works to Seashell’s campus that it enables.
Bloor Homes anticipate the homes launching in early 2022. Work on Seashell’s £50 million campus transformation began on 1st February 2021.
NJL Consulting are the planning consultants on the development, and Lexington Communications managed a public consultation on the proposals which took place during the summer of 2020.
