Stockport Homes and Stockport Council will be planting 100 trees across the 21 wards in Stockport from the end of September to Early October, to represent 100 years of council housing.
Local residents are encouraged to get involved in the celebrations by sharing images of Stockport Council Houses and communities over the years via social media – along with sharing ideas for how homes may look over the next 100 years. To enter tag @Stockport Homes and use #100yearsofcouncilhousing
Jenny Osbourne, Chair of the Board at Stockport Homes says,
“We are proud to be managing and providing warm, safe council homes across the borough for the residents of Stockport. We continue to build new affordable homes, to meet the needs of our local communities, helping them to thrive. I am excited to see some of the amazing photographs, of what people think council housing will look like in the next 100 years.”
Cllr Sheila Bailey, Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing says,
“Over 100 years of Council housing has provided millions of residents with good quality, affordable housing. The planting of these trees is an important marker and recognition of this. However, the best way to celebrate a century of Council housing is to redouble our efforts to build more wherever and whenever possible, as we have and will continue to in Stockport”.
