Run by EMERGE Recycling, Touch Wood works in partnership with the National Community Wood Recycling Project, a national network of community wood recycling organisations who collect and repurpose waste timber.
Since setting up shop in 2013, we have brought countless tonnes of waste wood back into reuse and helped businesses across the North West to make a greater contribution to sustainability. All the wood we rescue is processed, then either offered for sale in our reclaimed wood store, used to create bespoke furniture and other items by our staff, volunteers and apprentices or, as a last resort, sent for chipping to create animal bedding. 100% of our wood is reused or recycled, none of it is sent to incineration.
Touch Wood has worked in partnership with several local companies and health organisations to create bespoke well-being outdoor spaces for their staff and visitors including an outdoor space for Siemens Energy in Didsbury, a Dementia Garden at Rochdale Infirmary and a ‘Rewilding’ project at Fairfield Hospital in Bury. Each of these projects were completed using reclaimed wood.
We have worked on sustainability projects in partnership with the National Trust, the Royal Horticultural Society, Manchester City Council, as well as local schools and community groups.
