Last year, we rescued 2,244 tonnes of surplus good-to-eat food from going to waste in the food industry and redistributed it to 290 charities and community groups across Greater Manchester and beyond. That’s the equivalent of 4.8 million meals saved and enjoyed. We were only able to manage that thanks to the support of our food supply partners, our corporate partners and funders and our amazing volunteers who donated 23,687 hours of their time to our operation (equivalent to 12 FTE).
FareShare Greater Manchester is a leading member of the UK’s largest food charity, and is one of a network of 21 similar centres located across the UK fighting hunger and food waste. Each year, millions of tonnes of good quality food is going to waste while millions of people nationwide are struggling to afford to eat. We are doing all we can to stop that food going to waste in our city-region and get it to those who need it most.
FareShare GM is always looking for new partners in the food industry who are searching for an ethical solution for their good-to-eat surplus food. By sending it to us, we can stop it being wasted, and instead, get it out to communities in need of good quality food. We also welcome corporate partnerships with local businesses looking to hit their CSR targets with ethical, sustainable and positive corporate team-building volunteer days and those looking for local charity partners.
