EMERGE provides the full range of waste, recycling and confidential shredding collection services to businesses, organisations and schools. We strive to advance sustainable resource management through our services. A movement for positive change, EMERGE seeks to conserve natural resources and motivate more people to embrace ‘the real 3Rs’ Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in their daily lives.
EMERGE Recycling has almost three decades of experience in providing waste and recycling services in Greater Manchester and more recently Liverpool, accumulating expertise in a broad range of specialist areas, including source-separated office recycling, confidential waste, secure IT destruction and waste wood collection.
Located on a secure site within New Smithfield Market in Openshaw, East Manchester, our operations cover paper shredding and the bulking of a wide variety of materials including cardboard, glass, metal (cans), plastics, IT equipment and toner cartridges.
EMERGE Recycling is a social enterprise rooted in sustainable resource management, social value, and quality service. As a licensed waste carrier, we cater to diverse customer needs, including business waste, confidential shredding, food waste and waste electrical equipment. Our specialist infrastructure allows us to manage dry recyclables efficiently, promoting the principles of the real 3Rs: Reduce, Re-use, Recycle.
Our story began in 1996 when we launched as a community business in East Manchester. Over the years, we have expanded the EMERGE Family, which now includes two entities: EMERGE Recycling and EMERGE 3Rs. Also, operating from our HQ on New Smithfield Market, EMERGE 3Rs is an environmental charity promoting resource conservation. It runs FareShare Greater Manchester, helping to alleviate food waste and fight food poverty. It also runs the Give & Gain, Volunteering and Employability Programme. The two entities work collaboratively, with EMERGE Recycling utilising some of its resources and profits to achieve their shared vision. As such, in becoming our customer, you will also be helping people in food insecurity, as well as tackling unnecessary waste, motivating people to act responsibly, and reducing climate change.
We supply waste management services to a wide variety of customers, including businesses, schools and universities, charities and social enterprises, the NHS and local government. This includes services tailored for business waste recycling across Greater Manchester and in Liverpool too.
We are fully accredited with ISO 9001: 2015, BS EN 15713 (covering paper documents as well as IT equipment), SafeContractor, OTC operator licence and we hold a T11 Exemption. In addition to our general recycling services, we also operate reclaimed timber collections and a wood upcycling initiative, Touch Wood; in our shop we upcycle waste wood for sale to the public and train volunteers and work placements to create bespoke products. If you’re interested, you can also volunteer with Touch Wood and join our mission to upcycle and create.
