Dan Fern opened Do It Ourselves Studios in Welkin Mill, Stockport, just over a year ago.
After over 30 years of playing drums and working in various capacities in venues, studios and labels, Dan found there weren’t many doors open for him to build a career in music, so he decided to make his own. Hence, “Do It Ourselves” (DIO). This is also a nod to the community nature of music, not “DIY” but “DIO”.
Do It Ourselves offers a range of services to the grassroots and professional music industry, including music and DJ rehearsal rooms, a large professional recording and production studio, pre-production facilities and 4K filming and streaming capabilities.
The Studio also partners with local promoter and event organiser Jess Coulson, who runs DIO Live, which puts Do It Ourselves in a unique space that covers the whole live music journey, from creation to performance and beyond.
Notable customers of the studio are Elliot James Reay, Maruja, BC Camplight and Badly Drawn Boy, alongside many up-and-coming bands and DJs from Stockport and the surrounding areas.
Open 7 days a week from 10 am to 11 pm, customers can hire acoustically treated rooms, filled with the best and latest equipment for reasonable prices, and the studio even offers a 33% discount to all new rehearsal room customers with either DIONEWBAND or DIONEWDJ at checkout.
