Young people from Stockport have been putting their cooking skills into practice at the Heaton Norris Community Centre.
As part of the Cooking Club set up by Stockport Council’s Targeted Youth Services, young people cooked a Christmas Dinner that was served to local community groups that use the community centre. Tesco provided the food, ingredients and selection boxes.
The recently launched Cooking Club takes place once a month and is aimed at providing young people with basic life skills around food preparation, cooking and food hygiene.
It also encourages the integration of the young people into their local communities, making them aware of services which are available to them within their communities.
Councillor Colin Foster, Stockport Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Family Services, said:
“It’s great to see that local young people are getting involved with learning cooking skills which can be applied to their day-to-day lives. It’s also important that they’re engaging with their own communities and getting to know the work of other community groups.”
