After weeks of careful planning, preparation and training, Wayne Jones, CEO of MAN PrimeServ Diesel has completed his solo walk along Hadrian’s Wall.
Setting off from Bowness on Solway on the west coast
at first light on Monday, October 21st, Wayne embarked
on his 112-mile sponsored walk to Wallsend in the
east in order to raise funds for the Heaton School in
Stockport.

Heaton School is a special school for pupils aged 11–19 years who have severe or profound learning disabilities. Located approximately 5 miles from MDT-UK’s Headquarters in Hazel Grove, the school is looking for help in converting a piece of land into a working, memorial garden and allotment where pupils can gain further skills whilst working in a natural environment. MDT-UK already works closely with the school as pupils visit the Hazel Grove site weekly looking to gain valuable experience in the workplace.
Averaging approximately 28 miles per day, Wayne was tracked by followers from around the world, many of whom sent him messages of support along with some much appreciated sponsorship money. Despite experiencing rain for three of the four days – and aching limbs on the last day – Wayne witnessed some spectacular scenery along the way, including the tree made famous in the 1991 Robin Hood movie starring Kevin Costner.
He also came across a variety of reluctant to move livestock and remarkably for the last week of October in the remote extreme north of England, fellow Stopfordians from Mellor, Offerton and High Lane, all of whom donated to his cause.
Wayne Jones presents a cheque for £5000 Wayne Jones & Debbie Rowbotham from MAN
PrimeServ Diesel with pupils and staff at Heaton School
A week after his return, on Friday, November 1st, Wayne visited Heaton School to present them with a cheque for £5,000, the result so far of his efforts. This amount is the combination of direct cash received and through his donation website – www.simplygiving.com/waynejoneswalk – which is still active until November 19th, 2013.
Wayne would like to thank everyone who made generous donations in aid of Heaton School and for all the messages of support.
