Overnight counting has seen Stockport voters choose their representatives across the borough in the 2022 Local Elections., with a third of seats up for election.
Following the vote, no single party holds a majority of seats on the council, with the Liberal Democrats on 28 (+2) councillors, Labour on 25 (no change), the Conservative Party on 5 (-3), Heald Green Independent Ratepayers on 3 (no change) and the Green Party on two seats (+1).
The Liberal Democrats have emerged again as the largest party on Stockport Council, holding eight seats previously won in 2018, and making two gains at the expense of the Conservative Party in Bramhall North and Bramhall South & Woodford wards, who lost in all three wards they were defending.
The Labour Party, which controlled Stockport Council going into the 2022 Local Elections, have seen their total number of councillors remain unchanged, gaining Stepping Hill ward from the Conservatives, but losing Reddish South to see the ward elect the borough’s second ever Green Party councillor.
With neither of the largest parties having the 32 seats necessary to secure an outright majority, both will require the support of other groups in order to take leadership the council in the coming days.
The results of the voting in the Stockport local elections 5th May 2022 are as follows:

- Bredbury & Woodley Ward: Vincent Shaw (Liberal Democrats)
- Bredbury Green & Romiley Ward: Angie Clark (Liberal Democrats)
- Brinnington & Central Ward: Amanda Peers (Labour and Co-operative)
- Cheadle & Gatley Ward: Ian Hunter (Liberal Democrats)
- Cheadle Hulme North Ward: David Meller (Labour and Co-operative)
- Cheadle Hulme South Ward: Helen Foster Grime (Liberal Democrats)
- Davenport & Cale Green Ward: Elise Wilson (Labour)
- Edgeley & Cheadle Heath Ward: Louise Heywood (Labour)
- Hazel Grove Ward: Paul Ankers (Liberal Democrats)
- Heald Green Ward: Catherine Stuart (Independent Ratepayer)
- Heatons North Ward: John Taylor (Labour)
- Heatons South Ward: Thomas McGee (Labour)
- Manor Ward: Susan Glithero (Labour)
- Marple North Ward: Stephen Gribbon (Liberal Democrats)
- Marple South & High Lane Ward: Colin MacAlister (Liberal Democrats)
- Offerton Ward: William Dawson (Liberal Democrats)
- Reddish North Ward: David Wilson (Labour)
- Reddish South Ward: Elizabeth Crix (Green Party)
- Stepping Hill Ward: Christine Carrigan (Labour)
Turnout across Stockport stood at 36%.
