Stockport’s Vernon Building Society has awarded £530 to local group Artworks from its £10,500 Jubilee Fund.
The group, based in Stockport’s Hatworks Museum and run by volunteers, aims to help people who are recovering from health problems by providing a supportive environment for people to take part in a variety of arts and crafts.

Staff from the Society, that is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, attended the group to find out more and to see how the funding has been used to purchase materials and access other resources such as tutors and educational visits.
Nikki Morgan, one of the founding members of Artworks, said:
“The funding we received from the Jubilee Fund will help to continue to provide the group with a creative outlet which is really important to help improve confidence and meet new people.”
The Vernon’s Jubilee Fund will be receiving applications from local charity and community groups again in 2014, interested groups are encouraged to visit the Society’s website www.thevernon.co.uk for more information.
