A Stockport charity was a surprise winner as Stockport’s Vernon Building Society awarded 20 local community and charity groups a total of £10,000 from their Jubilee Fund.
Vernon staff made a significant contribution by raising more than £4,000 during 2013 for the fund and were rewarded for their efforts as they cose their own favourite cause to receive a further award of £500, with the winner announced on the night.
Vernon staff chose Young Onset Dementia Enjoying Life (YODEL), which supports people diagnosed with early onset dementia, and as a result of the additional award, they benefited from a total of £1,308.
At the presentation evening the 20 chosen groups received recognition for how their work benefits the area as well as their award cheque.
Claire White from YODEL (pictured far left) said: “We were overwhelmed to receive an additional award from the Jubilee Fund. It was a really lovely surprise and the funding will help us to benefit even more people in the local area who are living with early onset dementia.”
The fund will again invite applications from local charity and community groups next year. Groups who wish to apply can be kept informed by emailing jubileefund@thevernon.co.uk
